Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met in Subotica on Wednesday to discuss joint projects, regional cooperation, and the future of bilateral relations, underscoring their commitment to a partnership they said brings benefits to both nations.
The meeting took place at the Zvonko Bogdan Winery, a venue Vučić described on social media as “best representing Vojvodina,” the northern Serbian region with a significant Hungarian minority. The Serbian leader said the discussions were held in a “pleasant atmosphere” and covered ongoing initiatives as well as long-term collaboration between the two countries.
“Together, we have been building projects for years. I am confident that the stable and sincere partnership and friendship between Serbia and Hungary will continue to bring benefits to our peoples and to the region,” Vučić wrote on Instagram.
Earlier on Wednesday, Vučić shared a video showing Orbán visiting a local eatery in Subotica, where the Serbian president treated the Hungarian prime minister to burek, a traditional Balkan pastry. The informal stop highlighted the personal rapport between the two leaders amid official talks.
The pair were also honored by the István Pastor Foundation for their efforts in strengthening Serbian-Hungarian relations. At a ceremony at Subotica City Hall, bronze plaques featuring the likeness of István Pastor, former head of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians and former president of the Vojvodina Assembly, were presented to Vučić and Orbán by Pastor’s sons, Abel and Balint Pastor.
The visit signals ongoing efforts to expand cooperation on political, economic, and cultural fronts. Both leaders emphasized their commitment to joint projects that include infrastructure, trade, and cross-border initiatives aimed at fostering regional stability and economic growth.
The meeting comes as Serbia and Hungary continue to coordinate on multiple regional initiatives, with both governments highlighting the strategic importance of their partnership in the Western Balkans.
