Serbia is evacuating its citizens from Israel as fighting escalates in the Middle East, with evacuees expected to arrive in Belgrade via Egypt, the Serbian embassy in Tel Aviv said on Monday.
The embassy said in a post on X that the evacuation was under way in coordination with Serbia’s foreign ministry and other competent authorities.
Serbian nationals will be transported to Egypt before boarding a government-arranged flight to Belgrade, it said, adding that the embassy remained in constant contact with citizens and was continuing to monitor the situation.
Earlier on Monday, Serbia’s Foreign Ministry said it had set up a crisis team to coordinate all relevant services and state bodies to ensure a timely response aimed at protecting the safety of Serbian citizens.
Citizens were advised to regularly follow official information channels and act in line with security assessments and recommendations.
Belgrade media reported that the first aircraft from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates was scheduled to depart for the Serbian capital on Monday evening after flights were suspended due to the conflict in the Middle East.
Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport earlier announced that all flights to Doha and Dubai scheduled for Monday had been cancelled.
According to Western media reports, more than 1,000 flights to destinations across the Middle East were cancelled on Monday amid the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran and retaliatory actions by Tehran targeting Gulf states hosting U.S. interests.
Separately, Serbia’s Foreign Ministry said Serbian nationals in the Gulf region could seek consular assistance from diplomatic and consular missions in Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Qatar and Bahrain.
