Nataša Kandić, founder of the Humanitarian Law Center, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić over comments he made during a live television appearance.
According to the lawsuit, Vučić made “false and offensive” remarks during an interview on pro-government broadcaster TV Pink, which Kandić claims damaged her reputation and honor.
The lawsuit cites a statement in which Vučić accused Kandić of expressing discriminatory views toward Serbs from Bosnia’s Republika Srpska.
“She sees Serbs from Republika Srpska as inferior beings who don’t belong in Serbia—not even to study here. She put a target on the forehead of a student with a 10.0 GPA from the Faculty of Medicine,” Vučić said in the broadcast.
Kandić is a prominent human rights advocate known for her work documenting war crimes and transitional justice in the former Yugoslavia. She has frequently criticized Vučić’s policies and rhetoric.
Her legal team argues that the president’s statements constitute slander and are not protected by freedom of expression due to their defamatory nature.
