North Macedonia’s Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi has been hospitalised due to an intestinal obstruction, officials said on Tuesday.
Gashi was admitted to the University Digestive Surgery Clinic “Mother Teresa” in Skopje on Monday after experiencing severe abdominal pain. He is currently undergoing medical examinations.
“He has an intestinal obstruction. His condition has improved and he is being treated conservatively with medication. At this stage, surgery is not being considered,” the clinic’s director, Professor Dr. Ognen Kostovski, told local media.
The Parliament confirmed the hospitalisation, stating that Gashi’s condition is stable and further updates will be provided by relevant institutions.
It remains unclear how long Gashi will remain in hospital or how his absence might affect parliamentary operations. The Speaker is expected to announce dates for local elections in the first half of August.
