Construction of new patrol ships for Montenegro’s Navy officially began on Thursday at the KERSHIP shipyard in France, Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Becic said.
Becic said the vessels would form a new foundation for the country’s security and strengthen its defense policy and military modernization.
“These ships are a message that Montenegro will no longer be a weak point on the Adriatic, but a reliable pillar of peace, security, and alliance,” he said.
The patrol ships are designed for a range of missions, including monitoring territorial waters, combating smuggling and illegal migration, and participating in NATO-led international operations, Becic added.
The two vessels will be named “Petar I Njegos” and “Petar II Njegos.”
