Croatian President Zoran Milanović has accepted Prime Minister Andrej Plenković’s proposal to convene sessions of the National Security Council and the Defence Council, proposing that the meetings take place next week, the president’s office said.

The office said Milanović responded on March 20 to Plenković’s letter dated March 17, agreeing on the need to hold the sessions and endorsing the proposed agenda items.

“Following years of political disagreements and delays, both sides are now aligned that these councils should meet,” the statement said, noting strong public and media interest in the scheduling of the sessions.

Milanović suggested holding the meetings during the coming week, marking a step toward cooperation between the president and the prime minister on matters of national security and defence.

The president’s office added that the decision follows multiple inquiries and interest from the public regarding the convening of these key bodies.
