Travellers leaving Serbia faced long waits at several border crossings on Saturday, with delays of up to three hours at some points, the country’s Border Police Directorate said.

At Batrovci, on the border with Croatia, cars waited about 180 minutes to exit Serbia, despite five outbound lanes being open, while entry delays stood at around 45 minutes. Officials said congestion was caused by a surge in tourist traffic and border procedures applied by neighbouring countries.

At Horgoš, on the border with Hungary, outbound traffic faced 90-minute waits, with inbound delays of about 30 minutes. Freight traffic was held up for about 30 minutes in both directions. The Kelebija crossing to Hungary saw 30-minute delays.

On the Preševo crossing to North Macedonia, outbound traffic waited about 40 minutes and inbound 30 minutes. Delays at Gradina, on the Bulgarian border, were just under an hour.

Truck traffic was backed up for about an hour at Sremska Rača on the Bosnia and Herzegovina border, while toll booth delays included 25 minutes at Subotica and 15 minutes at Preljina.

The Border Police said updated waiting times would be announced as new information became available and that it was working with neighbouring authorities to ease congestion.
