A New Year’s Eve drone show in Budva, intended as a spectacular display over the Old Town, ended in failure on Thursday when around 600 drones fell into the sea and onto the plaza in front of the Port Captaincy, local police said.
Police conducted an investigation at the scene and informed the Kotor Prosecutor’s Office. No injuries were reported.
Authorities said it is unclear what caused the malfunction, and a forensic expert appointed by the prosecutor will determine the exact circumstances. The show, reportedly worth tens of thousands of euros, had been preceded by a fireworks display.
Officials from Budva’s Tourist Organization and municipality did not respond to requests for comment.
Footage of the incident circulated widely on social media.
