Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Wednesday that Croatia appreciates an invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump to join a proposed Peace Committee but cannot participate under its current format.

Speaking at the opening of a cabinet session, Plenković said the initiative had been carefully reviewed, including its planned mandate, international legal basis and financial implications, before the government reached its decision.

“Croatia highly values the invitation from President Trump and the efforts of the United States in the context of the Middle East,” Plenković said, adding that Washington’s actions had contributed to halting bloodshed in Gaza and to a broader plan aimed at ending the conflict there.

He said Croatia and other countries had examined “all aspects known so far” of the proposed committee, but concluded that joining was not feasible at this stage. Plenković added that he had discussed the government’s position with President Zoran Milanović.

“Although accession to the Peace Committee in its current form is not possible, Croatia remains committed to supporting overall efforts to stabilise the situation in the Middle East and the political negotiation process between Israel and Palestine,” he said.

Plenković noted that Croatia has already provided significant humanitarian assistance and remains in ongoing diplomatic contact with both Israeli and Palestinian officials.

He also highlighted Croatia’s post-conflict experience, saying the country was prepared to share its expertise in peacebuilding, including lessons already shared with Ukraine.

“In cooperation with our American and European partners, we will continue to contribute to the implementation of President Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza and to carry out United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803,” Plenković said.

Croatian media reported that the proposed Peace Committee is part of a broader U.S.-backed initiative related to Gaza and the wider Middle East, with discussions ongoing among multiple countries about potential participation.
