North Macedonia is among the countries co-sponsoring the U.S.-led draft resolution on Ukraine, while the European Union, led by Germany and France, is submitting a separate resolution.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski offered a brief comment when asked about the decision, saying: “That’s what we decided.” He expressed hope that the resolution would receive majority support within the United Nations.
The UN Security Council is set to vote on the U.S.-proposed draft resolution on Ukraine. In addition to North Macedonia, the resolution is co-sponsored by Israel, Georgia, and Hungary. The text expresses sorrow over the tragic loss of life in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and calls for an end to the war.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the resolution as “simple and historic,” urging UN member states to support it to pave the way for peace.
Meanwhile, the resolution submitted by France and Germany refers to the “full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation” and demands the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all Moscow’s forces.
