Political parties in Bulgaria have agreed on the seating arrangement and office allocation in the newly elected 52nd National Assembly, following a meeting aimed at ensuring a smooth start to parliamentary work.
Representatives of the parliamentary groups reached consensus after more than two hours of talks, confirming that all parties will have seats in the front row of the chamber.
The largest group, Progressive Bulgaria, will sit in the center-left section, while GERB-SDS will take positions in the center-right. The PP-DB alliance will occupy the far-right rows, the DPS party will sit between Progressive Bulgaria and GERB, and Vazrazhdane will take the far-left section.
Participants said there were no major disputes over seating or office space.
Focus shifts to policy priorities
Lawmakers stressed that procedural matters were secondary to pressing economic and social concerns, including rising prices and the need for anti-crisis measures.
“For us, seating and offices are a secondary issue. The more important issue is justice and addressing rising costs,” said a representative from Progressive Bulgaria.
Members from other parties echoed similar views, emphasizing inflation, judicial reform and governance as key priorities for the new parliament.
Political groups said no candidate for parliamentary speaker has yet been formally discussed.
Despite initial disagreements, representatives said the new parliament is expected to be constituted quickly, with a speaker likely to be elected on the first day of the session.
