Bosnia and Herzegovina’s tripartite Presidency voted unanimously on Tuesday to nominate U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his “engagement in efforts to establish peace in Gaza.”
The nomination comes just days after this year’s Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, which Sarajevo daily Avaz described as a “curious timing.” This marks Trump’s first nomination for next year’s prize.
The Nobel Committee on October 10 awarded the 2025 Peace Prize to Machado for her decades-long struggle against Venezuela’s authoritarian government.
Machado called the award “a great encouragement for a 20-year fight against dictatorship,” adding that “Venezuela will soon be free.” She also praised Trump’s role in “promoting peace in Venezuela,” dedicating the prize both to the Venezuelan people and to him.
