Milorad Dodik, President of Bosnia’s autonomous Republika Srpska, said on Saturday he will submit a report to the entity’s parliament in the coming days, urging lawmakers to take a stance on what he described as the United Kingdom’s alleged plan to deport migrants to Western Balkan countries.
In comments made to the Russian state outlet RT, Dodik claimed that some political actors at the national level in Bosnia and Herzegovina — “primarily Muslims” and opposition figures from Republika Srpska — were aware of the reported plan.
“I will submit information to the National Assembly so Republika Srpska can adopt an official position,” Dodik said. “The whole thing is absurd. The United Kingdom — and not only them, but also the EU — want to push migrants here. You heard the new German chancellor saying the migrant issue must be addressed. As you can see, migrants are also a problem in the United States.”
The UK government has not confirmed any such plans involving the Western Balkans. Dodik, a staunch nationalist and vocal opponent of Bosnia’s central institutions, frequently criticizes Western policies and maintains close ties with Russia.
His remarks come amid growing debate across Europe about tightening asylum policies and relocating migrants to third countries — a controversial approach that has drawn criticism from rights groups.
