Albania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, said on Friday that infrastructure construction sites are operating without interruption over the weekend, highlighting ongoing work on Lot 7 of the Elbasan-Qafë Thanë road, part of the pan-European Corridor VIII.
In a post on social media, Balluku shared images from the construction site and noted that crews are working on the construction of engineering structures, including box culverts and underpasses.
The Elbasan-Qafë Thanë segment is considered one of the most advanced construction lots in the first phase of Corridor VIII, Balluku has previously said. The corridor is part of a transnational infrastructure project designed to connect the Adriatic and Black Seas via Albania, North Macedonia and Bulgaria.
Balluku added that construction is proceeding on both sides of the Albania–North Macedonia border and will eventually connect at the Bushtricë Bridge, which will serve as a new border crossing point.
Corridor VIII is expected to play a key role in the development of the Porto Romano Port in Albania, positioning it as a regional logistics hub that will also serve North Macedonia.
