Serbia’s Alta Banka AD Belgrade has launched a takeover bid for Stopanska Banka AD Bitola, marking its entry into North Macedonia with plans to expand in the financial services sector.
The offer, published on Sept. 11, covers all voting shares issued by Stopanska Banka Bitola, the Belgrade-based lender said. The move follows approval from North Macedonia’s securities commission and prior consent from the central bank.
“This integration will bring significant benefits to the Macedonian market and contribute to the development of the local economy,” Alta Bank Chairman Davor Macura said in a statement.
Stopanska Banka Bitola confirmed receiving the takeover prospectus. “If the process is successfully completed, we believe Alta Bank’s experience and expertise will further improve the quality of services we provide, especially in innovation, digitalisation and client support,” said board chairwoman Aleksandra Radevska.
Alta Banka, one of the region’s larger lenders, said it intends to operate responsibly in North Macedonia, respecting local market conditions and regulations. The bank described the deal as a step towards stronger regional integration and new growth opportunities.
