The European Commission on Monday highlighted Greece’s forest protection and clean energy initiatives in a report reviewing its work since the start of its current term on Dec. 1, 2024, ahead of President Ursula von der Leyen’s policy speech on Tuesday.
The report pointed to the Antinero programme, designed to strengthen forest protection and climate change resilience with support from the EU’s Recovery Fund (NextGenerationEU). It also cited the islands of Agios Efstratios and Halki as emerging “models” of climate neutrality and energy self-sufficiency, backed by Cohesion Policy funds and the Recovery Fund.
The Commission said it has already delivered on commitments set out in its policy guidelines, staying the course despite what it described as a more unstable and competitive global environment.
