Montenegro will provide full assistance to help citizens recover from damage caused by wildfires that have swept several parts of the country, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic said on Tuesday.
Spajic said on social media platform X that the fires had caused significant material damage and injured several firefighters. “Unfortunately, our firefighters have also been injured – those who selflessly and bravely stand on the first line of defence,” he wrote.
He thanked emergency crews as well as Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, the European Union and NATO for providing rapid assistance, calling it a reflection of regional solidarity.
Spajic said the interior ministry, the army and other services would remain in affected areas “as long as necessary” and that the government’s Rescue and Protection Coordination Team would meet on Tuesday to review the situation and set guidelines for the response.
