Kosovo police on Wednesday oversaw the eviction of the Janjićijević family from an apartment in King Petar Street in North Mitrovica, barring access to the building during the operation, local media outlet Kosovo Online reported.
The apartment was previously purchased by the family from the Trepča company, as was common practice among Serbs in the region several decades ago.
Another family was evicted under similar circumstances a day earlier.
Lieutenant Erduan Baljiqi of the Kosovo Police’s North Region said police were assisting the Kosovo Property Comparison and Verification Agency, which is handling the case.
Baljiqi added that police have been involved in a growing number of such property-related cases but did not specify how many apartments are affected.
Many Serbs in northern Kosovo recently received notices from the Kosovo Privatization Agency ordering them to vacate apartments once owned by socially-owned enterprises where they had worked and from which they had legally purchased the properties.
