A surge in tourist traffic has caused major congestion across Croatia, with kilometre-long queues reported on key roadways leading to the coast, authorities said on Friday.
Croatia’s Interior Ministry released aerial footage showing heavy traffic across multiple routes, as the summer holiday season peaks.
The Croatian Auto Club (HAK) confirmed a significant increase in vehicle numbers and said the heaviest congestion was along highways leading to the Adriatic coast.
“Traffic is intensified on most roads heading toward the coast and in the opposite direction toward the interior, including several border crossings,” HAK said in a statement. “Drivers are advised to maintain a safe distance between vehicles.”
The country, a popular summer destination, sees millions of tourists transit through its road network each season.
