Jared Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, spent two days in southern Albania this week, in what appears to be a mix of vacation and business activity tied to their luxury tourism investments in the region.
The couple, accompanied by their children, reportedly stayed in the coastal city of Vlorë. While the purpose of their visit was not officially confirmed, local media suggest it may be related to their ongoing plans to develop a high-end resort on nearby Sazan Island.
During their stay, Kushner and Trump held a meeting with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, according to local sources.
The couple is reportedly behind a major investment initiative to transform the uninhabited Sazan Island, once a military base, into an exclusive holiday destination. The planned development includes luxury villas built into the island’s rocky cliffs, offering views of the Adriatic and Ionian seas.
“This will be the ideal resort,” Ivanka Trump was quoted as saying, as international outlets reported on the project in recent weeks. Media coverage has described the planned resort as a “Mediterranean oasis” designed for ultra-wealthy clientele.
British newspaper The Guardian recently dubbed the project “Trump Island,” reporting that the investors have already committed more than $1 billion to the development, which is pending clearance of unexploded ordnance left over from the island’s military past.
The Sazan Island resort, if completed, could mark one of the largest private foreign investments in Albania’s tourism sector to date.
