Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday voiced strong support for former U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, describing the Islamic Republic as a “theocracy” unlike any other nuclear-armed state.
“This is not just another nuclear state. Nor merely a dictatorship with nuclear ambitions,” Rama said in a post on social media platform X. “This is a theocracy—armed with apocalyptic rhetoric… and openly calling for [free nations’] annihilation.”
He said Albania, which emerged from a hardline atheist dictatorship and is now a U.S. ally and NATO member, stood “firmly behind President Trump’s genuine efforts to prevent the theocratic regime in Tehran from ever acquiring nuclear weapons.”
Rama’s comments come amid rising tensions in the Middle East, where the conflict between Iran and Israel has fueled renewed concerns over nuclear proliferation and regional instability.
