Albania’s opposition leader Sali Berisha voiced support for the U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling them a decisive opportunity to rally global efforts toward overthrowing what he described as Iran’s “obscurantist theocratic dictatorship.”
Berisha, head of the centre-right Democratic Party, said in a Facebook post on Saturday that the de facto destruction of Iran’s nuclear potential marked a turning point.
“The obliteration of the ayatollahs’ nuclear capability by U.S. air power is a new opportunity and a powerful call to all Iranians, both inside the country and abroad, to unite for the overthrow of the obscurantist theocratic dictatorship and for a free and democratic Iran,” he wrote.
Berisha’s remarks came a day after the United States launched strikes on three nuclear-related sites in Iran, in what Washington described as a pre-emptive move against Tehran’s accelerating nuclear programme.
The Democratic Party has long aligned itself with the United States on foreign policy issues.
