Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama knelt in front of his Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, in a light-hearted moment at the opening of the European Political Community summit in Tirana.
“He only does that to be as tall as me,” Meloni joked as the leaders greeted each other.
Speaking to the press, Meloni said she had not yet visited the migrant processing centre in Gjadër but assured that “work is ongoing and we are on the right track.”
The sixth European Political Community summit opened Thursday in the Albanian capital under the slogan “A New Europe in a New World,” marking the first time the high-level gathering is held in the Western Balkans. Leaders from 47 European countries, along with heads of EU and international institutions, are attending.
