BRUSSELS, July 22 (BV) – Greece has emerged as the main obstacle to the European Union’s 21st package of sanctions against Russia, delaying approval over concerns linked to the bloc’s planned ban on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is scheduled to take full effect in 2027.
EU ambassadors met to discuss the new sanctions package, but Athens has withheld its support as negotiations continue over the energy measures.
The dispute comes as the EU seeks to maintain pressure on Moscow while reducing its dependence on Russian energy.
