Three people were injured after a passenger train struck a rockfall triggered by a landslide on a railway line in central Bulgaria on Saturday morning, authorities said.

The train, travelling from Ruse to Plovdiv, collided with a mass of rocks that had fallen onto the tracks between the towns of Tryavna and Tsareva Livada at around 8 a.m., according to officials.

The locomotive and the first carriage derailed following the impact, while rail traffic on the affected section was suspended.

A total of 65 passengers were on board at the time of the incident. Three sustained minor injuries, including bruises and abrasions, infrastructure authorities said.

A diesel locomotive was dispatched to pull the affected carriages to Tsareva Livada, where passengers were to be transferred by bus to the town of Dabovo.

Bus transport has also been arranged for passengers on other trains operating along the same route.

Disruptions are expected to continue along the fourth railway line in the section between Gorna Oryahovitsa and Dabovo, officials said.
