Bulgarian police have dismantled an illegal factory producing counterfeit medicines and anabolic steroids in Sofia, authorities said on Wednesday, seizing more than 1 million tablets along with raw materials and production equipment.
The operation was part of a large-scale international crackdown on illicit pharmaceutical trade, carried out by economic police units across the country.
More than 220 sites, including pharmacies, warehouses, gyms and beauty salons, were inspected during the operation, officials said.
Violations were also identified in the cities of Burgas and Ruse, including the sale of prescription drugs without authorization, distribution of expired medicines, and illegal use of botulinum toxin and fillers.
