Lumir Abdixhiku, leader of Kosovo’s Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), survived a vote of confidence in a party assembly on Saturday, securing the support of delegates to remain at the helm despite a poor showing in December’s early parliamentary elections.

Abdixhiku voluntarily offered his resignation following the elections, in which the LDK garnered about 13.24% of the vote, one of its lowest results since the 1998–99 conflict. Delegates in the party’s extraordinary assembly then held a secret ballot on whether to accept his resignation and reconsider his leadership.

After more than seven hours of discussions, party members voted in Abdixhiku’s favour, allowing him to remain party chairman. He described continuing in the role as both a “privilege and a responsibility” and thanked delegates for their support.

Abdixhiku told reporters that the assembly had adopted two statements — one on internal party reorganisation and another on the broader political situation in Kosovo. He said the LDK is committed to open dialogue across the political spectrum with the aim of contributing to national political stability. He also signalled readiness to engage with other parties on the selection of Kosovo’s next president.

Some senior party figures had criticised Abdixhiku’s leadership and called for his resignation after the electoral setback, but delegates ultimately backed him in the confidence vote.
