Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday he held a telephone call with North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova to discuss diplomatic efforts for a just peace in Ukraine and the countries’ shared path toward European Union membership.
“I briefly informed [her] about our diplomatic work to achieve a just peace as soon as possible. We also talked about coordinating steps on the path to EU membership,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram. “Thank you for supporting Ukraine.”
Zelensky said the two leaders discussed cooperation within the Ukraine–Southeast Europe format and that preparations were underway for the next summit of regional leaders.
“It is important that North Macedonia be represented at the summit,” he said.
Siljanovska-Davkova’s office confirmed the call in a press release, stating that she emphasized North Macedonia’s firm support for Ukraine amid Russia’s military aggression. The two presidents also exchanged views on the upcoming summit in Switzerland aimed at establishing a framework for comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine. Zelensky invited Siljanovska-Davkova to visit Ukraine during the conversation.
