Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said on Sunday that the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) won a “convincing victory” in local elections held in the municipalities of Negotin, Mionica and Sečanj, adding that voters had “understood who is fighting for Serbia”.
Vučić told reporters that SNS secured 69.3% of the vote in Negotin, while an opposition list he described as “blockading” won 26.7%, translating into 33 and 12 seats respectively. He said SNS also led comfortably in Sečanj with 60.9% and in Mionica with 52.6% of votes, according to preliminary results.
Senior SNS official and presidential adviser Miloš Vučević also addressed party supporters, calling the outcome a “clear and overwhelming victory” for the ruling party in all three municipalities.
Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. and closed at 8 p.m. in the three municipalities, where voters elected members of local assemblies. The final official results are expected in the coming days.
