Montenegro’s population is projected to reach 328,000 by 2100, according to the United Nations (UN) “World Population Prospects 2024” study.

The study notes that in 1995, Montenegro had 631,000 residents, and by 2024, the population is expected to be 639,000. By 2054, the population is projected to decrease to 518,000.

The study also predicts that the global population will continue to rise for the next 50 to 60 years, peaking in the mid-2080s at 10.3 billion people. After reaching this peak, the global population is expected to gradually decline to 10.2 billion by the end of the century.

The likelihood of the global population peaking during this century is estimated at 80%, marking a significant shift from the UN’s 2013 projections, which put the probability of population growth ending in the 21st century at around 30%.

The report also highlights that by 2100, the global population will be six percent smaller—or about 700 million fewer people—than previously anticipated a decade ago.
