Low-cost carrier Wizz Air will introduce two new direct routes from Belgrade this summer, connecting Serbia’s capital with Alicante, Spain, and Friedrichshafen, Germany.

The route to Alicante, known for its sandy beaches and vibrant summer atmosphere, is expected to attract holidaymakers seeking sun and sea. Hotels in the Spanish coastal city are typically fully booked during the summer months. Additionally, popular destinations such as Benidorm and Murcia are easily accessible from Alicante, located just an hour and 45 minutes away by bus, respectively.

Friedrichshafen, located on the shore of Lake Constance and near the borders of Austria and Switzerland, returns to Wizz Air’s network after a six-year hiatus. The city is an attractive base for travelers looking to explore the region’s lakeside scenery and cultural offerings.

From May 23, Wizz Air will station its fourth Airbus A321neo aircraft in Belgrade, restoring its four-plane fleet in the Serbian capital after more than a year. The expansion follows capacity reductions in 2024 caused by issues with Pratt & Whitney engines affecting part of its A320neo fleet.

“We are proud to hold nearly 70% of the market share among low-cost airlines in Serbia. Adding the fourth aircraft in Belgrade allows us to increase flight frequencies on existing routes and introduce 119,000 new seats—representing a nearly 24% capacity boost compared to summer 2024,” said Roland Tischner, Managing Director of Wizz Air Hungary.

“This growth not only offers passengers more destination options but also contributes to the local economy by creating new jobs and supporting tourism,” Tischner added.
