A strong earthquake struck the Livno area in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday evening, shaking parts of Croatia, the Croatian Seismological Service reported.
The Seismological Service at the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, recorded the earthquake at 5:31 p.m. local time, with a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale. The intensity at the epicenter was estimated at V–VI on the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS).
A second, weaker tremor measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale occurred in the same area at 5:45 p.m., with an epicentral intensity of III–IV EMS.
The tremors were felt across much of central Dalmatia, western Herzegovina, and central Bosnia. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) received more than 450 reports from residents in cities including Zadar, Split, Metković, and Mostar.
Croatian emergency centres in Split and Šibenik received about 30 calls from residents reporting the earthquake, but no material damage has been reported, according to the Directorate of Civil Protection.
Video footage shared with local media showed furniture shaking and residents’ reactions in villages including Svib and Korešnica.
No casualties have been reported.
