Severe weather that swept across much of since Thursday has triggered more than 4,700 emergency calls, civil protection authorities said on Friday, warning that high-level weather alerts remain in force.

The Directorate of Civil Protection said the bulk of calls to the 112 emergency system were related to damage to residential and commercial buildings, vehicles, power outages, and fallen trees blocking roads.

The capital, , accounted for the majority of incidents, with more than 4,000 calls recorded between Thursday and Friday afternoon. Other affected areas included Karlovac and Krapina counties.

Strong winds and adverse weather conditions caused widespread disruption, including damage to public infrastructure. Among the more significant incidents, parts of a canopy at a hospital in Zagreb were damaged, along with several schools and kindergartens. Damage was also reported at the Dražen Petrović Basketball Centre.

Authorities said emergency services had been notified of all incidents and response operations were ongoing, though hampered by strong winds. The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service has issued red and orange weather warnings for wind and snow, urging residents to exercise caution.

Flood defence measures were introduced on the Ilova River on Friday afternoon as water levels rose.

The Croatian Firefighting Association said firefighters continued to respond to the aftermath of the storm, focusing on clearing fallen trees from roads and vehicles and repairing damaged structures.

According to the national firefighting operations centre, nearly 1,200 interventions were recorded between Thursday morning and early Friday afternoon, with the highest number in Zagreb and the surrounding county.

Elsewhere, dozens of interventions were reported in Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Karlovac, Krapina-Zagorje and other regions, while rising water levels were also observed in parts of northwestern Croatia.

Several roads were closed due to flooding, including a local road near Vrbovec, authorities said, adding that further closures were possible if water levels continue to rise.

Fire services said they were monitoring the situation and would respond as needed.
