Drivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina are facing hazardous winter conditions on roads across the country following overnight freezing rain, with ice and residual snow reported on mountain passes, authorities said.
Fog is reducing visibility in valleys and along river basins, particularly in the regions of East Sarajevo and Foča. Officials warned motorists to exercise increased caution on bridges, overpasses, and tunnel approaches.
On some major routes, including Trnovo-Foča via the Rogoj pass and Bosansko Grahovo-Strmica, traffic for heavy vehicles has been temporarily suspended, while passenger vehicles are allowed to pass with care. Local traffic authorities, including the Bosnian Auto-Moto Club (BIHAMK), advised drivers to adjust speed and maintain safe distances.
Border crossings with Croatia, including Gradiška, Donja Gradina, and Kozarska Dubica, experienced increased traffic from vehicles leaving Bosnia, though no significant delays were reported.
Meanwhile, Croatian authorities reported slippery conditions on highways A1 (Zagreb-Split-Dubrovnik) and A6 (Rijeka-Zagreb), as well as on mountain roads and key bridges such as the Paški, Krčki, and Dr. Franjo Tuđman bridges. Snowfall and strong winds have also caused ferry service disruptions in some areas.
Emergency services urged motorists to carry winter equipment and exercise extreme caution until weather conditions improve.
