A shootout between rival migrant groups near an asylum camp on the outskirts of Sarajevo left six people wounded on Monday evening, Bosnian police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place near a camp in the village of Blazuj. Authorities conducted a raid and detained several suspects following the violence.
Local media reported the clash involved smugglers transporting migrants from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Two of the injured are said to be in life-threatening condition.
Migrants traveling the Balkan route to reach Western Europe often rely on people smugglers to illegally cross into EU member Croatia. While crossings have declined since the peak in 2015-2016, migrants continue to face significant risks, including violence and exploitation by smuggling networks.
In a related incident over the weekend, Serbian police said a migrant was killed in a shootout during a raid on an illegal camp near the Croatian border.
