A series of minor earthquakes was recorded in central Croatia late on Friday and early Saturday, according to data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
Two weak tremors were registered on Friday evening south-east of Zagreb. The first occurred at 8:43 p.m. local time with a magnitude of 1.5, its epicentre located about 41 km southeast of the capital and near the town of Sisak. A second tremor followed minutes later with a magnitude of 1.1.
Another minor earthquake was recorded early Saturday at around 4:44 a.m., with a magnitude of 1.6. The epicentre was approximately 40 km southeast of Zagreb, at a shallow depth of about 2 km, EMSC data showed.
Residents in some areas reported brief rumbling sounds and light shaking lasting a few seconds. There were no immediate reports of injuries or material damage.
Croatia lies in a seismically active region and experienced a powerful earthquake near Zagreb in March 2020 that caused widespread damage.
