Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with Gert Jan Koopman, Director of the European Commission’s Directorate for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, to discuss Serbia’s path toward European Union membership, ongoing reforms, and improvements in EU cooperation, officials said on Friday.
Vučić highlighted the need to accelerate reforms in the rule of law and to enhance legal frameworks in line with EU standards while safeguarding citizens’ interests and maintaining the stability of Serbia’s legal system.
“The goal is to speed up preparations for opening the remaining clusters in the EU accession process,” Vučić wrote on Instagram following the meeting.
He expressed gratitude to Koopman for his personal engagement and support, adding that he expects continued constructive collaboration with European institutions with the clear objective of Serbia joining the EU.
The meeting is part of broader efforts by Belgrade to engage with EU institutions amid ongoing negotiations over Serbia’s accession process and judicial reforms.
