Drivers will be able to travel by motorway from Curtea de Argeș to Bucharest starting in May, following the completion of the remaining stretch of the A1 Sibiu–Pitești Motorway, Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) said on Wednesday.
CNAIR Director General Cristian Pistol announced that final works are underway on the remaining 14.65-km segment between the Băiculești road junction and Curtea de Argeș. The section, built by Italian construction firm Webuild SPA, is expected to open to traffic by the end of next month.
“With this, we are getting closer to fully opening the entire 30.35-km Pitești–Curtea de Argeș section,” Pistol said in a statement.
In a Facebook post, Pistol noted that approximately half of the section—15.7 km between Bascov and Băiculești—was opened to traffic in 2024. Once the final segment is operational, drivers will be able to travel uninterrupted along 140 km of motorway between Curtea de Argeș and Bucharest.
The Sibiu–Pitești motorway is a key infrastructure project for Romania, forming part of the Pan-European Corridor IV and linking central Romania with the capital and the western European transport network.
