Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has officially called on the government to suspend import tariffs on all products from the United States. In a post on platform X, Osmani described the move as a significant step in strengthening economic ties with Kosovo’s closest ally.
“Today, I officially requested the Government of Kosovo to suspend import tariffs on all American products—a crucial step to deepen our economic relations with our closest ally and send a clear message: Kosovo is ready for a stronger relationship with the United States, with a clear vision that will make both our countries stronger, safer, and more prosperous,” Osmani wrote on X.
According to Osmani, the decision would create new opportunities for employment, technological exchange, and long-term economic growth. She also framed this move as a foreign policy objective, underscoring the importance of Kosovo’s alliance with the U.S.
“I am confident that this step will open new opportunities for job creation, technological exchange, and long-term economic growth. More than just an economic action, this is a foreign policy goal that reaffirms our unwavering commitment to the Kosovo-U.S. alliance, built on shared values of freedom and steadfast support over decades,” Osmani concluded.
In a related development, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new series of tariff measures, including a 10% minimum tariff on all imports into the U.S. Kosovo and other countries in the Western Balkans will also be affected by these new tariffs.
