Montenegro plays an important role in preserving stability and encouraging cooperation in the Western Balkans, thanks to its good relations with neighbouring countries, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović said during a meeting with Turkish counterpart Tayyip Erdogan.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, marking their fifth meeting and reaffirming strong bilateral ties and mutual trust, Milatović’s office said in a statement, citing national news agency MINA.

Erdogan accepted an invitation to visit Montenegro, where he and Milatović are expected to inaugurate the renovated building of the former Turkish embassy in Cetinje, a project funded by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the statement said.

“Montenegro, thanks to its good relations with neighbours, plays an important role in preserving stability and encouraging cooperation in the Western Balkans,” the statement said.

The leaders also discussed shared interests and strategic issues related to regional stability. Milatović thanked Erdogan for Türkiye’s continued support and its constructive role in strengthening political dialogue and regional cooperation, his office said.
