Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the opposition Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and former prime minister, met senior Turkish officials in Ankara on Thursday, in a visit aimed at reinforcing bilateral ties and securing continued support from Turkey for Kosovo’s international agenda.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Haradinaj said he held talks with Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozay and Deputy Defence Minister Musa Heybet. He also met Sabri Demiri, a senior adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
“Turkey remains committed to the region and dedicated to supporting Kosovo,” Haradinaj wrote.
Turkey is one of the first countries to have recognized Kosovo’s independence after it declared secession from Serbia in 2008. Ankara has since been a vocal advocate for Pristina in international forums, including lobbying for Kosovo’s membership in global institutions.
The visit comes at a time when Kosovo continues to face diplomatic challenges, including non-recognition by several countries and obstacles to joining the Council of Europe and the United Nations.
