Kosovo’s Ministry of Defence has declined to comment on statements made by foreign embassies regarding a recent operation by the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) to retrieve the body of a missing person from Lake Ujman, near the country’s northern border.

In a response to broadcaster RTV21, the ministry said it saw no reason to address the diplomatic concerns.

“The KSF carried out one of its core missions in the north—support to civil authorities in search and rescue operations. Therefore, we see no need to comment on the embassies’ reactions,” the ministry said.

The German Embassy in Pristina on Monday expressed concern over what it called the politicisation of the KSF’s deployment in the north.

“Statements from political actors portraying this mission as ‘the KSF’s first operation in northern Kosovo’ misrepresent the purpose and spirit of the deployment,” the embassy said in a press release. “Equally troubling are allegations of manipulated images—specifically, the removal of visible KFOR elements in footage—to promote a misleading narrative. Such actions risk undermining public trust and divert attention from the humanitarian nature of the mission.”

French Ambassador to Kosovo, Olivier Guerot, also weighed in, criticising the political framing of the operation and emphasising the role of the NATO-led KFOR mission.

“France offers its full support to KFOR and its commander. Since its inception, KFOR has played—and continues to play—an irreplaceable role in regional security. It deserves the respect and recognition of all stakeholders,” Guerot said.

He also praised the media outlets that accurately reported KFOR’s involvement in the search for the missing person.

“France will continue to support KFOR in an environment increasingly shaped by disinformation and manipulation of facts,” he added.
