The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, has briefly summarized on social media the messages she conveyed during her visit to Kosovo, Serbia and North Macedonia in recent days.

“The Western Balkans are of strategic importance for the EU. Enlargement in this region is our most important geopolitical project and also a personal priority for me,” she wrote in Instagram.

Regarding her stay in Kosovo, she said that her message was to form a government as soon as possible.

“I have encouraged all parties in Kosovo to overcome the political deadlock and quickly form a government. Leaders must put aside divisions and prioritize the future of Kosovo,” she wrote.

As for Serbia, Kallas said that her message there was clear.

“I want to see Serbia move forward towards the EU. For this, political leaders must implement the necessary reforms and clarify the strategic direction. This is best done by restoring trust and adhering to democratic principles,” she said of Serbia.

Regarding Macedonia, she recalled that this is the first country to benefit from the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. “It belongs to our European family. Now it is crucial to continue on the path towards the EU,” she added.

During her visit to Kosovo, Kallas met with the leaders of the incumbent government and the parties that were previously in opposition. In a press conference, she confirmed that the Ohrid Agreement remains in force, while urging Kosovo and Serbia to implement it. She also announced that the EU has begun the gradual lifting of punitive measures imposed on Kosovo, but stressed that this process is conditional on maintaining peace in the north, which is mainly inhabited by Serbs.

And three months after the parliamentary elections of February 9, Kosovo still does not have a constituted Assembly and an elected government. In 20 sessions, the Assembly has failed to elect a new Speaker to pave the way for the start of the terms for the new Government./ KOHA.NET
