Special forces surround the district education office as authorities investigate a possible workplace dispute motive
Shots were fired on Monday at a government building in the Kepez district of Antalya, prompting an emergency evacuation and a large police operation, authorities and local media said.
According to initial reports, an individual entered the District National Education Directorate located inside the Kepez governor’s office building and opened fire. The suspect then reportedly barricaded himself inside one of the rooms.
The building was immediately evacuated following the shooting, and police units established a wide security cordon around the area. Special operations police and emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
Video circulating on social media showed armed special forces entering the building, while evacuated employees and citizens waited outside.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone had been injured.
Local media said the suspect, identified by the initials M.J., an employee of the district’s education directorate, allegedly used a firearm he was carrying. Authorities have not officially confirmed the motive, but unverified reports suggested the incident may have been linked to alleged workplace harassment.
In a video posted on social media before the shooting, the suspect reportedly complained about pressure and mistreatment at work.
Police were attempting to establish contact with the suspect and persuade him to surrender, while the investigation was ongoing.
Authorities urged residents to avoid the area as the security operation continued.
