Greece has offered to receive and treat burn victims injured in a deadly fire at a New Year’s Eve party in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana, Kathimerini reported.
The offer follows a request by Switzerland to the European Union’s Civil Protection Mechanism for assistance after the blaze, which killed more than 40 people and injured at least 100 others, according to the latest official figures.
Swiss authorities initially chose to transfer some of the injured to neighbouring countries due to geographic proximity and shared language, the sources said.
They added that Greece’s foreign ministry remains on standby, in coordination with the health ministry and civil protection authorities, should Switzerland submit a follow-up request for medical support.
Most of the victims were Italian and French nationals, officials said. Search, recovery and victim identification efforts were continuing on Friday.
Greek authorities said a Greek national was among those reported missing following the fire.
