The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Kristijan Mickoski, and his First Deputy, Izet Mexhiti, met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, today in London, United Kingdom.
The meeting took place within the framework of the European Political Community (EPC) summit, the fourth in a row since the promotion of this union as a wider platform of Europe in 2022.
“At the meeting, I emphasized Macedonia’s clear support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people and stressed that they can continue to count on our friendship in the future.” Macedonia and the Macedonian people are a humane nation and understand these difficult historical challenges and unforeseeable consequences. “Our relationship is based on true friendship, from which principles, values and understanding emerge,” Mickoski wrote on his Facebook profile.
The meeting was announced by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of North Macedonia, Izet Mexhiti.
“We discussed important issues affecting our region, including security challenges and prospects for our countries. We focused on integration into Euro-Atlantic structures aimed at ensuring a more prosperous and secure future for our citizens. We also discussed the need for regional and international cooperation to address common challenges. I highlighted the importance of our strategic allies such as the United Kingdom and the United States of America, who have been and will continue to be strong supporters of our Euro-Atlantic aspirations. “Our partnership with the UK and the US is a strong pillar that ensures peace, stability and sustainable development in the region and beyond,” Mexhiti wrote on his Facebook profile.
At the fourth meeting of the European Political Community, leaders from across the continent gathered at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. The Heads of State and Government will discuss continued support for Ukraine as well as common challenges such as energy and connectivity, security, democracy and migration. The EU will be represented by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and 47 European Heads of State and Government, including Kosovo, will also be present.
The aim of the European Political Community is to promote political dialog and cooperation in order to address issues of common interest and strengthen the security, stability and prosperity of the European continent.
This platform for political coordination does not replace the EU or any other structure, but is intended to serve as a platform to accelerate the European integration of all candidate countries.
EPC has held three meetings so far. At the first meeting in October 2022, the heads of state and government primarily discussed peace and security issues, in particular the Russian war in Ukraine and the energy crisis. At the next meeting in June 2023, they discussed joint efforts for peace and security, energy sustainability and connectivity and mobility in Europe. In October 2023, the heads of state and government discussed how to make Europe more resilient, prosperous and geostrategic.
