The European Union on Friday adopted a second bilateral assistance package worth €15 million under the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support the Albanian Armed Forces, bringing the total EU defence support to Albania to €28 million.

The new package aims to strengthen Albania and international coalitions.

The assistance includes the provision of light armoured multipurpose vehicles, tactical and engineering vehicles, and, where needed, related supplies and services such as operational and maintenance training.

“Today’s decision demonstrates the EU’s strong and continued engagement with Albania on security and defence,” said Kaja Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and President of the Foreign Affairs Council. “Strengthening our cooperation with Albania directly reinforces European stability, security, and peace.”

Albania, a NATO member and consistent EU foreign policy partner, has aligned fully with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy. The decision builds on the Security and Defence Partnership signed between the EU and Albania in November 2024, and the launch of the first EU-Albania Security and Defence Dialogue in April 2025.

The European Peace Facility, launched in March 2021, enables the EU to finance activities that prevent conflict, preserve peace and enhance international security. It supports third countries and organisations in the field of military and defence, including the delivery of non-lethal and, where appropriate, lethal equipment.

The first EU bilateral assistance package to Albania under the EPF, amounting to €13 million, was adopted in July 2024.
