Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday called for Muslims to have a stronger role in global decision-making, saying they deserved greater representation, Anadolu Agency reports.
“Muslims, who make up a quarter of the world’s population, must be included in global decision-making processes,” Erdogan told foreign ambassadors in Ankara.
He reiterated his long-standing call for an Islamic country to have veto power on the UN Security Council, a demand he has linked to his “the world is greater than five” initiative, which challenges the dominance of the council’s five permanent members.
“Having an Islamic country with veto power on the UN Security Council is no longer just a necessity, but an imperative,” Erdogan said during an iftar meal marking the holy month of Ramadan.
