Béatrice Godefroy, Deputy Director of the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), concluded a high-level visit to North Macedonia last week, where she held a series of strategic meetings with key stakeholders across the defence, judicial, and parliamentary sectors.
During her visit, Godefroy delivered the keynote address at the official promotion of North Macedonia’s Gender Self-Assessment Report and the Gender Action Plan (2024–2028). The event, attended by senior officials including President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova and representatives from the Ministry of Defence, underscored the country’s ongoing commitment to advancing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and promoting gender equality within the defence sector.
Godefroy also met with the Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament of North Macedonia, the Deputy Director of the Academy of Judges and Public Prosecutors, and engaged with civil society and media representatives. Her visit included a guided tour of the Parliament, where discussions focused on furthering reforms in intelligence and the broader security sector.
“We commend North Macedonia’s efforts to integrate gender perspectives in its security institutions and appreciate the strong partnerships with our beneficiaries, government institutions, civil society, and international donors,” Godefroy said in a statement.
DCAF expressed gratitude to its donor countries — Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the European Union — for their continued support in promoting democratic governance and reforms in the security sector.
The visit reaffirms DCAF’s ongoing cooperation with North Macedonia as the country progresses toward EU integration and strengthens its democratic institutions.
