The number of insured persons in Croatia rose to 1,768,228 at the end of June 2025, up 1.7% or 29,004 compared to the same month last year, the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute (HZMO) said on Tuesday, citing preliminary data.
The figure was up by 87,414, or 5.2%, compared with June 30, 2023, and by 127,458 or 7.8% from June 2022, the HZMO said on its website.
The number of insured persons serves as a key indicator of employment trends.
By sector, the largest numbers of insured persons at end-June were recorded in manufacturing (249,089), wholesale and retail trade including vehicle repair (241,268), construction (150,997), and hospitality and tourism (141,292).
Year-on-year, the strongest growth in insured persons was seen in other service activities (+15,936), education (+6,605), real estate activities (+4,070), and health and social work (+3,798).
At the end of June, there were 63,008 insured in other service activities, 127,406 in education, 20,769 in real estate, and 120,690 in healthcare and social assistance.
Compared to June 2023, the largest sectoral increases were in other services (+18,945), construction (+15,734), and education (+8,745), the agency said.
